Unemployment rate touches highest in 45 years, claims Indian Labor Ministry

New Delhi — The Indian labor ministry on Friday said that unemployment rate in the country was 6.1 per cent of a total labor force during 2017-18, which makes highest in 45 years.

The data was released before election, however labor ministry has confirmed it on a day when Modi 2.0 Cabinet took charge.

The data released showed 7.8 per cent of all employable urban youth being jobless, while the percentage for the rural population was 5.3 per cent.

The employment rate among Indian males was 6.2 per cent, while for Indian females it was 5.7 per cent.
