Thane — A cab driver was allegedly assaulted in the early hours of Sunday by a group of three men and was also forced to chant Hindu god’s name “Jai Shri Ram” in western Indian state of Thane.
According to Mumbra Police, 25-year-old Faizal Usman Khan went to pick up a passenger in Diva area in Thane in the early hours of Sunday, his vehicle started acting up, so Khan kept trying and since it was dark he switched on the parking lights.
In the meanwhile, a group of three men were passing on scooters, they spotted Khan and started abusing him despite Khan spoke to them politely.
They dragged Khan out of the cab and thrashed him, they forced him to chant Hindu god’s name calling “Jai Shri Ram”. When the passenger noticed the brawl, he fled from the scene.
Khan told The Mirror media that, “I told them Allah ke vaste, mujhe maat maaro, mujhe chhod do (For Allah’s sake, do not hit me, let me go). They then forced me to chant Jai Shri Ram. They kept hitting me till I lost my consciousness. Later I found myself in the car, with my mobile phone stolen.”
“We have booked them for deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs, robbery, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, criminal intimidation and common intention,” said a police official.
