Four new Jazan projects to boost food security in Riyadh
Riyadh — The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has unveiled four new investment projects in the Jazan region designed to enhance agricultural productivity, support food security, and encourage greater private sector participation in the Kingdom’s sustainable development goals.
The announcement reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in key food sectors as part of Vision 2030. The projects focus on modern farming techniques, livestock development, and local agri-business innovation — all aimed at ensuring a stable and resilient food supply chain.
The first project involves the establishment of a large agricultural city in the Abu Arish governorate, spanning 82,659 square meters. This ambitious development will focus on cultivating fruit trees and will include a dedicated marketing services building to support the distribution and sale of local produce. Interested investors can submit applications until Jan. 6, 2026.
In Damad governorate, the second project will introduce hydroponic greenhouses over an area of 18,599 square meters. These advanced facilities will enable sustainable vegetable production while conserving water — a key priority in the Kingdom’s agricultural modernization strategy. The application deadline for this project is Jan. 5, 2026.
Two additional projects will take shape in the Farasan Islands, targeting livestock breeding, fattening, and red meat production. The first site covers 250,000 square meters, while the second spans 160,000 square meters. Both are expected to significantly enhance domestic meat production capacity and reduce reliance on imports. Investors have until Jan. 7, 2026, to apply for these opportunities.
By opening these projects to private sector investment through the Furas platform, the ministry seeks to create an environment that fosters innovation, job creation, and long-term sustainability in the food and agriculture sector. Officials emphasized that collaboration between government and private enterprises will be essential for advancing the Kingdom’s food security agenda.
The ministry stated that the Jazan initiatives are designed not only to improve the region’s agricultural and livestock productivity but also to serve as a model for similar projects across other regions of Saudi Arabia. Through these efforts, the Kingdom aims to empower local farmers, attract agribusiness investors, and build a robust food production system that can withstand global supply chain challenges.
These new projects reinforce Saudi Arabia’s strategic focus on sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and economic diversification. As Vision 2030 continues to guide national policies, the Jazan region is emerging as a key player in advancing food security and agricultural innovation for the Kingdom’s future.
