Dubai — Rulers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al-Maktoum have sent cables of condolence on Friday to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express sympathies over the demise of his mother.

Heeraben Modi, who was 100 years old, passed away in the early hours of Friday. She had health issues and has been receiving care since Wednesday at a hospital in Ahmedabad, in the western state of Gujarat.

On Friday, PM Modi led a funeral procession in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed tweeted, “I offer my deepest condolences to my dear friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the passing of his mother, Heeraben Modi. Our heartfelt sympathies are with him and his family during this difficult time”.

UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Al Maktoum also sent similar cable to PM Modi.

When Sheikh Khalifah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, president of the UAE, passed away in May 2022, the Indian government under PM Modi marked a day of mourning. The gesture was appreciated by the UAE royals and citizens.
