The 5th World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum will be held in Riyadh.

Date:

The fifth World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum will be held in Saudi Arabia with the topic “Managing World Heritage for the Next 50 Years.”

A hybrid model will be used for the forum, with three online sessions taking place between June and July 2023 and a physical gathering taking place in Riyadh from September 10 to 16, 2023.

The summit will coincide with the UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s 45th extended session, which will be held in Saudi Arabia in September after the nation was unanimously chosen to serve as the committee chair.

The decision was made at the World Heritage Committee’s 18th extraordinary meeting in Paris, when it was also decided to add Yemeni, Lebanese, and Ukrainian historical sites to the organization’s List of World Heritage in Danger.

The committee will meet in Riyadh from September 10 to 25, which is home to At-Turaif, a World Heritage Site. Princess Haifa bint Abdulaziz Al-Mogrin, the permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to UNESCO and head of the body’s programmes and external relations committee, will preside over the event.

The forum will bring together managers of World Heritage sites from all around the world, assisting participants in growing their networks and gaining knowledge on a global scale.

The past 50 years’ accomplishments will be analysed, and site managers’ mounting difficulties will be explored.

The World Heritage Convention’s accomplishments, improving resilience and sustainability, risk management, climate change, and digital technologies for monitoring and conserving UNESCO World Heritage sites will all be discussed.

The Ministry of Culture in Saudi Arabia has set up an online registration system for anyone who want to take part.

Applications can be submitted, click here, by May 7, 2023.
