Tehran — Esmail Qaani, commander of the foreign operations arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said on Thursday that Israel must withdraw from its current positions in southern Lebanon as a minimum condition for ending the ongoing conflict involving Hezbollah.

In a statement posted on a domestic social media platform, Qaani said support for Hezbollah and the Lebanese resistance remained a responsibility for Muslims and described Israel’s withdrawal as an achievable objective.

“The minimum demand of the resistance is the withdrawal of the Israeli regime to the positions it held before the start of the 40-day war,” Qaani said.

His remarks come amid continued fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and growing diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire. Iran has repeatedly linked any broader regional settlement to an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

Tehran is a key backer of Hezbollah, which has been engaged in cross-border hostilities with Israel since the conflict intensified earlier this year.

Beirut-Lebanese militant group Hezbollah said on Saturday it launched a drone attack against a military position in northern Israel, as hostilities continued despite a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

In a statement, the Iran-backed group said its fighters targeted the Ya’ara barracks with what it described as “a swarm of attack drones” after earlier announcing several operations against Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon near the border area.

The reported strike comes amid ongoing clashes that have persisted since fighting escalated on March 2, undermining efforts to stabilize the border despite ceasefire arrangements aimed at limiting further escalation between the two sides.

Hezbollah said Israeli troops remained deployed in areas of southern Lebanon close to the frontier, where exchanges of fire and military operations have continued in recent weeks.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on Hezbollah’s reported drone attack or claims regarding operations near the Ya’ara barracks in northern Israel.

Cross-border hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have intensified alongside broader regional tensions linked to conflicts involving Iran-backed groups across the Middle East, raising concerns about a wider confrontation along Israel’s northern frontier.

Tel Aviv- Israel said its military struck a missile launcher in Lebanon after it was used to fire projectiles into Israeli territory on Thursday, in an escalation that followed the extension of a ceasefire between the two sides.

The Israeli military said the launcher had been used in an attack that was intercepted by its air defense systems. Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for the rocket fire. The exchange came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire had been extended by three weeks, underscoring ongoing fragility in the truce.

Hezbollah said its attack was in retaliation for an earlier Israeli strike on the southern Lebanese village of Yater. Lebanon’s public health ministry said two people, including a child, were wounded in artillery shelling in the area.

Separately, the ministry reported that an Israeli airstrike killed three people in the Nabatieh region in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military said those killed were militants who had launched a missile toward an Israeli warplane.

Cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah have persisted intermittently despite ceasefire efforts, with both sides accusing each other of violations as tensions linked to the wider regional conflict continue.
