<p><strong>New Delhi (Reuters) &#8211;</strong> India switched off its moon rover, the first craft to reach the lunar south pole, after it completed its two-week assignment conducting experiments, the country&#8217;s space agency said.</p>



<p>The Pragyan rover from the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft was &#8220;set into Sleep mode&#8221; but with batteries charged and receiver on, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, late on Saturday.</p>



<p>&#8220;Hoping for a successful awakening for another set of assignments!&#8221; ISRO said. &#8220;Else, it will forever stay there as India&#8217;s lunar ambassador.&#8221;</p>



<p>By landing on the&nbsp;moon, India joined the United States, China and the former Soviet Union. It went beyond them in reaching the rugged south pole, shortly after Russia&#8217;s&nbsp;Luna-25&nbsp;crashed on a similar attempt.</p>



<p>Chandrayaan-3&#8217;s soft, textbook touchdown after a failed attempt in 2019 sparked widespread jubilation in the world&#8217;s most populous country. The media hailed the landing as India&#8217;s greatest scientific feat.</p>



<p>Pragyan travelled over 100 m (330 feet), confirming the presence of sulphur, iron, oxygen and other elements on the moon, ISRO said.</p>



<p>Now India is hoping for the success of a probe launched on Saturday to study the&nbsp;sun, observing solar winds that can cause disturbance on earth commonly seen as auroras.</p>



<p>&#8220;The satellite is healthy&#8221; and in earth orbit, ISRO said on Sunday, as it prepares for its 1.5 million-km (930,000-mile) journey.</p>

<p>The Chandrayaan-3 mission aimed to build upon the success of its predecessors, Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, and further India&#8217;s advancements in space exploration and lunar research. The immense public interest in the mission&#8217;s progress and the live stream&#8217;s popularity signify the growing curiosity and fascination with space missions.</p>



<p>The live stream outshined several high-profile sports matches and music releases. Notably, the Brazil vs South Korea football match garnered 6.15 million views, while the Brazil vs Croatia match and Vasco vs Flamengo match received 5.2 million and 4.8 million views, respectively. <p><strong>Hyderabad (Reuters) &#8211;</strong> Skyroot Aerospace, which launched India&#8217;s first private rocket in 2022, aims to double its planned launches starting next year on a likely boost to the country&#8217;s fledgling private space sector from the success of the Chandrayaan-3&nbsp;moon mission.</p>



<p>The Hyderabad-based company, backed by Singapore&#8217;s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, is also aiming to raise more money by the end of next year, co-founder Pawan Kumar Chandana told Reuters in an interview.</p>



<p>&#8220;From 2024 and later, we&#8217;re looking at at least two launches per year and will probably ramp up as we move further,&#8221; said Chandana, whose company is set to send its second rocket to space by the end of the year.</p>



<p>Chandana, a former scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation, said he was receiving &#8220;a lot of messages from global and domestic investors&#8221; who want to understand Skyroot&#8217;s business ever since India became the first country to achieve a safe landing on the lunar south pole.</p>



<p>The company conducted India&#8217;s&nbsp;first private&nbsp;rocket launch looking to cut satellite launch costs in an industry fast getting crowded as various firms build out networks to deliver broadband services, which need small satellite launches.</p>



<p>Chandana said the company plans to ramp up its 280-member workforce by 20% in the next two years to support the expected increase in launches.</p>



<p>It is also planning a fundraising in 2024, more than the $51 million raised in its last round led by GIC, Chandana said, without giving further details.</p>



<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re well funded for now. So, the next large fundraising round, the Series C round, will probably be in 2024 end,&#8221; Chandana said.</p>

<p>Chandrayaan-3 is expected to achieve a historic landing on Wednesday at 6:04 pm, as announced by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The landing process will be telecasted live, commencing at 5:20 pm.</p>



<p>Mahali revealed that the students, who study science, were filled with curiosity regarding the Chandrayaan-3 mission. He expressed hope for the mission&#8217;s success and the nation&#8217;s triumph.</p>



<p>ISRO provided an update on Chandrayaan-3, stating that the mission was on schedule and undergoing regular checks. The organization expressed excitement and energy within the Mission Operations Complex (MOX).</p>



<p>Prayers and celebrations have been planned across the country to commemorate the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. The Uttar Pradesh government has instructed state-run schools to screen the soft-landing for students, while the science and technology council of the Gujarat government has invited over 2,000 school students to witness this &#8220;historic&#8221; event.</p>



<p>Hindu prayer ceremonies were also held in Mumbai and Varanasi, invoking blessings for the mission&#8217;s triumph.</p>

<p><strong>New Delhi (Reuters) &#8211;</strong> Excitement rose in India on Tuesday on the eve of a much-anticipated moon landing, with prayers held for its success, schools marshalling students to watch a live telecast of the event and space enthusiasts organising parties to celebrate.</p>



<p>The Indian Space Research Organisation&#8217;s (ISRO) Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is scheduled to land on the lunar south pole at 1234 GMT on Wednesday, days after the failure of a Russian vehicle trying to achieve the same feat.</p>



<p>Success for Chandrayaan-3 will make it the first to land on the&nbsp;lunar south pole, a region whose shadowed craters are thought to contain water ice that could support a future moon settlement.</p>



<p>India&#8217;s&nbsp;second attempt&nbsp;to land on the moon after a failure in 2019 is being seen as a display of the tenacity of its scientific institutions.</p>



<p>Authorities and educators also hope it will encourage scientific inquiry among millions of students in the world&#8217;s most populous country.</p>



<p>Students have sent scores of messages wishing ISRO luck for a successful landing, the agency said.</p>



<p>In the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, the provincial government ordered all schools to hold special screenings as &#8220;landing of India&#8217;s Chandrayaan-3 is a memorable opportunity, which will not only encourage curiosity, but will also instil passion in our youth towards inquiry&#8221;.</p>



<p>In Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the science and technology council has invited over 2,000 school students &#8220;to witness the historic moment&#8221; on a large screen, its head Narottam Sahoo said.</p>



<p>The council has also organised talks by ISRO scientists. The event will be shown live across Gujarat&#8217;s 33 district community science centres.</p>



<p>The state culture ministry in the eastern city of Kolkata is throwing a &#8220;Science Party&#8221; to celebrate the mission, asking people to &#8220;embark on exhilarating educational adventure&#8221; with a live telecast.</p>



<p>Hindu religious prayer ceremonies were organised on Tuesday in Mumbai and Varanasi cities for the success of the mission.</p>



<p>Srikant Chunduri, an entrepreneur and founder of a group of space enthusiasts called &#8220;Agnirva&#8221;, said he has arranged a &#8220;watch party&#8221; for the landing at a popular Bengaluru restaurant.</p>



<p>&#8220;If we want to build a community for space enthusiasts, (there is) nothing more momentous than this landing to get people together,&#8221; he told Reuters.</p>



<p>ISRO has been sharing regular updates of the mission through posts on X, formerly Twitter.</p>



<p>&#8220;The mission is on schedule. Systems are undergoing regular checks. Smooth sailing is continuing,&#8221; it said on Tuesday.</p>
