MOSCOW – Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Monday that its forces had struck military-related infrastructure at Ukraine’s Black Sea port

MOSCOW – Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Monday that its forces had struck military-related infrastructure at Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Chornomorsk, damaging facilities used to handle military cargo, as fighting continued on both sides of the more than four-year-old conflict.

The ministry said the attack targeted port infrastructure used for unloading military cargo, fuel storage tanks and an ammunition warehouse. It added that Russian forces also struck two ferries and a container ship during the operation.

Ukraine’s agricultural company Kernel Holding said on Monday it had suspended operations at Chornomorsk after its assets sustained significant damage during Russian missile and drone attacks carried out between the nights of July 10 and July 12.

There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian authorities regarding Russia’s claims or the reported damage at the port.

The strike comes as Moscow has warned it could escalate the conflict following a series of Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy infrastructure, including oil refineries and tankers, saying such strikes are a response to Russia’s sustained attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Separately, authorities in Russia said Ukrainian drone attacks killed three people and wounded five others in the Moscow region on Monday.

Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said three people were killed and three injured after a drone crashed in the settlement of Pionersky in the Istra district. He added that two other people were wounded elsewhere in the region.

Vorobyov said Russian air defense systems intercepted 81 drones over the Moscow region during the attacks.

In southern Russia, Stavropol region Governor Vladimir Vladimirov said a drone strike caused a fire in an industrial zone in Vyazniki, Shpakovsky district.

Emergency and firefighting services were deployed to the site, and Vladimirov said there were no immediate reports of casualties. He warned residents that the drone threat remained in effect across the region.

The latest exchanges underscore the expanding reach of cross-border attacks as both Russia and Ukraine continue to target infrastructure they consider strategically important.

Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain stalled. Ukraine’s allies were scheduled to meet in Paris on Monday to discuss additional measures to increase pressure on Russia, while U.S.-led efforts to broker an end to the war have lost momentum in recent months as Washington shifted greater attention to its confrontation with Iran.
