The statement was released following discussions among finance chiefs from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as tensions linked to the Middle East conflict continue to disrupt international trade and energy flows.

The ministers also emphasized the need to address widening global current account imbalances and reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral coordination in responding to threats facing the world economy.

The G7 warned against arbitrary export restrictions and stressed the importance of maintaining stable and predictable energy markets at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty and supply chain volatility.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, remains one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime chokepoints. Any disruption to traffic through the corridor can have immediate consequences for oil prices, shipping costs and inflationary pressures across major economies.

The latest G7 statement reflects growing international concern over the economic fallout from escalating regional tensions and the broader impact on global trade, energy security and financial markets.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO), which monitors shipping threats in the region, said the vessel sustained a small fire following the impact. The blaze was later extinguished and no casualties were reported.

The UKMTO did not identify the ship, disclose its ownership, or specify the nature of the projectile involved in the incident. No group immediately claimed responsibility.

The attack comes amid heightened tensions across Gulf shipping lanes following weeks of military escalation involving Washington and Tehran.

Commercial maritime traffic in the region has faced increased security risks since the outbreak of clashes earlier this year, prompting naval deployments and intensified monitoring operations by Western and regional forces.

The Persian Gulf and surrounding waterways remain among the world’s most strategically sensitive maritime corridors, carrying a substantial share of global crude oil exports and liquefied natural gas shipments. Earlier this month, the United States Central Command released images showing the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta enforcing a maritime blockade against an Iran-flagged crude oil tanker identified as the Herby, which Washington said was attempting to reach an Iranian port.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Trump said Pakistani civilian and military leaders had urged the United States to avoid broadening military operations during sensitive diplomatic talks with Tehran.“As you know, Pakistan has been fantastic.

Ishaq Dar separately spoke by telephone on Thursday with Abbas Araghchi, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said.Pakistani foreign ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Islamabad hoped negotiations would produce a sustainable resolution supporting regional and international stability.

“We hope the parties will reach a peaceful and sustainable solution that will contribute not only to peace in our region but to international peace as well,” Andrabi said.

Pakistan also said it was coordinating with Singapore to facilitate the repatriation of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian seafarers aboard vessels seized by U.S. authorities near Singaporean waters.
