Riyadh – Minzal has returned as one of the most immersive cultural experiences of the Diriyah Season, inviting visitors to rediscover the heritage of historic Diriyah through nature, storytelling, and traditional hospitality rooted in Najdi identity.

Set against the dramatic landscape overlooking Wadi Safar, the program blends history and environment, offering a calm yet engaging escape that reflects the deep relationship between people, land, and tradition in central Arabia.

Open daily from early evening until midnight, Minzal creates a timeless atmosphere where guests can explore Saudi customs through poetry, oral narratives, scenic viewpoints, and cuisine inspired by generations of local knowledge.

The experience is designed to feel organic and lived-in, allowing visitors to move freely between spaces that reflect different aspects of traditional life while enjoying modern comforts and thoughtful design elements.

Running until mid-February, Minzal offers a diverse range of activities including horseback riding, falconry, archery, and astronomy, alongside curated cafes, restaurants, and retail spaces that add a contemporary dimension.

Each element is carefully integrated to ensure authenticity remains central, while still appealing to international visitors seeking meaningful cultural engagement rather than surface-level tourism.

The program is divided into four main zones, each highlighting a distinct dimension of Diriyah’s historical and cultural legacy, encouraging exploration through participation rather than observation.

The Al-Uloom zone focuses on craftsmanship, where leather-working, carpet-weaving, and wood-working demonstrate skills that once supported everyday life and trade across the region.

Nearby, the Sloom experience centers on Saudi hospitality, offering insights into coffee traditions, desert plants, fire-lighting practices, camel-milking, and tent-making that shaped nomadic and settled communities alike.

For those drawn to movement and skill, the Faris Al-Badiyah experience brings equestrian heritage to life through horse riding and archery, emphasizing values of discipline, balance, and respect for animals.

The falconry zone introduces visitors to one of the most iconic aspects of Arabian culture, teaching the traditions, ethics, and techniques associated with hunting alongside trained falcons.

As night falls, the Al-Mushrif zone offers a quieter experience, with stargazing under clear desert skies that reflects how astronomy once guided travel, agriculture, and seasonal rhythms.

Minzal’s setting allows visitors to slow down and reconnect with nature, reinforcing Diriyah’s role as a place where geography and history have always been deeply intertwined.

Beyond entertainment, the program contributes to cultural education by presenting heritage as a living, evolving practice rather than a static display of the past.

Diriyah Season as a whole positions the area as a global destination for heritage tourism, drawing attention to sites that once served as political, cultural, and social centers of the region.

Minzal complements this vision by focusing on everyday life, offering intimate encounters with traditions that shaped community values and collective memory.

The experience reflects a broader national effort to preserve heritage while aligning it with contemporary standards of design, sustainability, and visitor engagement.

By combining Najdi authenticity with innovation, Minzal demonstrates how cultural preservation can coexist with modern development and international appeal.

As Riyadh continues to expand its cultural landscape, Minzal stands out as a space that honors the past while inviting dialogue with the present.

For visitors, the program offers not just activities, but a deeper understanding of how heritage continues to inform identity, creativity, and belonging in today’s Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh – Riyadh witnessed a powerful celebration of heritage and international cultural exchange as the world’s largest falconry festival officially

Riyadh – Riyadh witnessed a powerful celebration of heritage and international cultural exchange as the world’s largest falconry festival officially opened its doors this week.

The 2025 King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival commenced at the Saudi Falcons Club’s Malham facility, located north of the capital, drawing wide attention from enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Recognized globally for its scale and organization, the festival has become a flagship cultural event reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving traditional practices while welcoming global participation.

Falconers from nine countries gathered in Riyadh for this year’s edition, representing Gulf Cooperation Council states alongside participants from Italy, Ireland, and Syria.

The presence of international competitors highlights the festival’s growing stature as a global platform for falconry excellence and cultural dialogue.

From its opening day, the event demonstrated remarkable energy with six qualifying heats conducted for local falconers across multiple competitive classifications.

These included Gyr Pure falcons in fledgling and passage stages, as well as Peregrine and Saker falcons competing in both Fledgling and Passage categories.

The competitions reflect the technical depth of the sport and the high standards upheld by the festival’s organizers.

Over the course of the event, participants will compete in an impressive 139 rounds, vying for 1,012 prizes valued at more than SR38 million.

This substantial prize pool reinforces the festival’s role in supporting falconry as both a cultural tradition and a professional sporting discipline.

The festival features two primary disciplines that define modern competitive falconry: the Milwah lure racing trials and the Mazayen beauty contests.

Milwah races are conducted over a 400-meter distance, testing speed, precision, and the bond between falcon and falconer.

These races are divided into four skill levels, including owners, amateurs, professionals, and elite competitors, ensuring fair and structured competition.

Separate divisions for Saudi and international falconers further enhance inclusivity and global representation.

The Mazayen beauty contests focus on detailed aesthetic criteria, celebrating the elegance, symmetry, and unique features of each bird.

Judging standards are exacting, reflecting centuries-old traditions combined with modern evaluation techniques.

The King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival holds three Guinness World Records, officially recognizing it as the largest falconry event in the world based on bird participation.

This distinction underscores Saudi Arabia’s leadership in preserving and elevating falconry on the global cultural map.

Festival organizers have emphasized their commitment to nurturing younger generations and ensuring the continuity of falconry heritage.

Through education, competition, and international collaboration, the event seeks to inspire future falconers and deepen public appreciation for the sport.

As Riyadh continues to host major cultural and heritage events, the festival stands as a symbol of national pride, global openness, and respect for living traditions.

The King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival not only celebrates the art of falconry but also reinforces Saudi Arabia’s role as a global hub for heritage-based cultural exchange.

Jeddah – The General Directorate of Passports, part of the Ministry of Interior, has launched a special commemorative passport stamp

Jeddah – The General Directorate of Passports, part of the Ministry of Interior, has launched a special commemorative passport stamp to celebrate the 10th edition of the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage and authentic traditions.

The festival, held in Al-Sayahid north of the Riyadh Region in cooperation with the Camel Club, runs until January 3, showcasing the Kingdom’s iconic camel culture, traditional equestrian practices, and the enduring significance of camels as a symbol of Saudi heritage.

Travelers arriving at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and at land ports in the Eastern Province will have the opportunity to receive the commemorative passport stamp, highlighting the festival’s role in welcoming visitors while promoting awareness of Saudi Arabia’s historic and cultural milestones.

This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Interior to document major national events, celebrating the Kingdom’s traditions and achievements while introducing international visitors to the richness of Saudi culture and the historical importance of camels in the Arabian Peninsula.

The commemorative stamp emphasizes the Kingdom’s dedication to cultural preservation, strengthening national identity, and promoting pride in the authentic heritage that has shaped generations of Saudis across centuries.

In addition, the Ministry’s initiative aligns with previous cultural projects, such as the series of commemorative postage stamps issued by Saudi Post in collaboration with the General Entertainment Authority in September, which celebrated the Kingdom’s 95th National Day under the theme “Our Pride Is in Our Nature.”

These stamps, valued at SR3, and a special postcard at SR5, marked the unification of the Kingdom by King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, transforming historical milestones into celebrations of national pride, loyalty, and identity, while highlighting the Kingdom’s continued commitment to commemorating significant cultural events.

The history of Saudi commemorative postage stamps dates back to the early 1930s, when the first stamp marked the appointment of Prince Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as crown prince, establishing a long-standing tradition of celebrating royal and national achievements through philately.

Saudi postage stamps are equipped with advanced security features that ensure authenticity, prevent counterfeiting, and protect both institutional and intellectual property, reflecting the Kingdom’s careful attention to quality and cultural preservation in all official initiatives.

The new passport stamp initiative demonstrates how Saudi Arabia continues to integrate cultural heritage into modern administrative practices, linking international travel with meaningful recognition of the nation’s unique historical and cultural narratives.

It also enhances the experience of visitors, allowing them to participate in commemorating national events while learning about the Kingdom’s cultural landmarks, traditional practices, and the historical significance of camels in shaping Arabian society and livelihoods.

By connecting travel, heritage, and celebration, the stamp fosters a deeper appreciation of Saudi Arabia’s identity, showcasing how national festivals like the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival reinforce cultural pride and international engagement.

The initiative exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s strategy of preserving traditions while promoting tourism and international awareness, highlighting the Kingdom as a destination where history, culture, and contemporary infrastructure meet in harmony.

Through such programs, Saudi Arabia reinforces its global cultural presence, encouraging participation in national celebrations and creating a legacy of education, pride, and engagement for both residents and international visitors alike.

The commemorative passport stamp is more than a functional travel item; it symbolizes Saudi Arabia’s vision of celebrating heritage, national pride, and cultural storytelling, offering a lasting reminder of the Kingdom’s rich history and enduring traditions.

Saudi Arabia’s cultural initiatives continue to strengthen national unity, promote heritage awareness, and ensure that iconic symbols like the camel remain central to the Kingdom’s identity, providing both educational and celebratory experiences for all who visit or reside in the country.

The 2025 theme, “In the Blink of an Eye,” invited audiences to explore how moments, memories, and emotions can be transformed through light.

Iconic sites such as the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, Qasr Al-Hokm District, JAX District, King Abdullah Financial District, and Al-Faisaliah Tower became open-air galleries filled with color, movement, and futuristic design.

Noor Riyadh’s global recognition continues to grow, with this year’s awards including honors from LIT Lighting Design Awards, Muse Design Awards, TITAN Awards, and the New York Architecture Awards.

These programs brought tens of thousands of residents and visitors into direct interaction with the artworks, fostering artistic curiosity and creative learning.

This year’s educational outreach focused on introducing young audiences to digital art, design principles, and the possibilities of emerging technologies.

Families also enjoyed nightly shows and storytelling sessions, adding to the festival’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

The success of Noor Riyadh reflects the broader cultural transformation underway in the Kingdom, where public art is becoming an integral part of city planning and social development.

By merging tradition with innovation, the festival celebrates both local talent and global perspectives within one vibrant platform.

As part of the Riyadh Art program’s long-term vision, Noor Riyadh is just one pillar of a larger initiative to turn the city into an open-air gallery.

Upcoming projects include Tuwaiq Sculpture 2026, which will bring international sculptors to Riyadh to collaborate, create, and engage with local communities.

The festival’s growing international attention is also boosting cultural tourism, drawing travelers who seek immersive art experiences in dynamic urban environments.

Its blend of creativity, diversity, and technological advancement reflects the spirit of a city evolving into a global creative capital.

With its record-breaking achievements and expanding global reputation, Noor Riyadh 2025 stands as a symbol of artistic ambition and cultural progress.

Riyadh — The Nordic Youth Orchestra is set to perform in Riyadh for the first time on Dec. 1, presenting “Metsa,” an immersive instrumental and visual performance staged at Al-Faris International School, marking a significant cultural moment in the city’s expanding arts landscape.

The event is being organized in collaboration with the Saudi Music Hub and the Music Commission, bringing a blend of Nordic musical traditions and contemporary artistic styles to audiences experiencing the ensemble’s work for the first time in the Kingdom.

The performance will feature a live composition by Finnish composer Lasse Heikkila, who drew inspiration from the changing seasons of Northern Europe, weaving natural themes into a piece that integrates sound, narrative and visual storytelling.

Hanna-Marie Laul, head producer of the Nordic Youth Orchestra project, said the group is enthusiastic about performing in Riyadh and emphasized the importance of musical exchange, reflecting the orchestra’s commitment to building cultural understanding through the arts.

She explained that members of the ensemble have self-funded their journey to Saudi Arabia, motivated by a desire to connect with new audiences and to collaborate with local musicians as part of a shared artistic experience.

Laul noted that a significant number of orchestra members have never visited the Kingdom before, making the performance a milestone for both the musicians and the cultural organizations hosting them in Riyadh.

The program will blend Nordic-inspired soundscapes with an accompanying film by a Finnish director, featuring imagery of Estonian and Finnish forests and night skies, merging nature-driven visuals with orchestral composition to create a multi-sensory environment.

In addition to the ensemble performance, the event will feature several solo works, including a special appearance by Saudi cellist Mohammed Al-Guthmi, who will perform alongside the Nordic musicians in a collaboration highlighting the exchange of artistic styles and techniques.

Other soloists include virtuosos Kaur Nellis, Henri Christofer Aavik, Joonatan Rautio, Sonja Kola, Kalervo Kulmala and Laul, each presenting pieces that showcase different facets of Nordic classical and contemporary music traditions.

The showcase will also introduce audiences to traditional Nordic instruments, including the Estonian kannel and the accordion, underscoring the group’s commitment to sharing authentic elements of Northern European musical heritage.

Laul said the orchestra’s objective is to create an atmosphere where cultural bridges can be formed through music, emphasizing that the ensemble arrived independently and will perform without charge to ensure open access for audiences and to encourage broader musical engagement.

She described music as a universal medium that can transcend language and geography, making it a powerful tool for fostering global connection and mutual appreciation across diverse communities.

Organizers expect the event to draw significant interest from students, musicians and art enthusiasts seeking fresh cultural experiences, aligning with ongoing efforts in Riyadh to expand artistic programming and international creative collaboration.

The Nordic Youth Orchestra, composed of young musicians from several Northern European countries, is known for combining classical disciplines with modern performance styles, creating immersive works that emphasize storytelling, cultural identity and shared artistic values.

The group’s arrival in Riyadh is viewed as part of a broader momentum in the Kingdom’s cultural sector, which has been hosting an increasing number of international musical and artistic collaborations as part of a long-term strategy to foster cultural exchange and support creative development.

The performance aims to highlight the potential for sustained collaboration between Saudi and Nordic musicians, with organizers expressing hope that this debut appearance will pave the way for future joint initiatives and expanded artistic partnerships.

The upcoming event serves as a reflection of Riyadh’s growing reputation as a destination for global cultural activity, offering opportunities for international artists to engage with local audiences and contribute to the city’s evolving artistic dialogue.
