London – Britain’s Prince William is set to make an official visit to Saudi Arabia in February, marking a significant diplomatic moment as the United Kingdom and the kingdom highlight expanding cooperation across trade, energy and investment, according to a statement released by Kensington Palace.

The visit reflects the growing importance of bilateral ties at a time when both countries are looking to strengthen long-term strategic and economic partnerships.

The trip, scheduled from February 9 to 11, will be Prince William’s first official visit to Saudi Arabia and comes as London and Riyadh approach nearly a century of diplomatic relations.

Palace officials said the visit is intended to underline the depth of engagement between the two nations, particularly as Saudi Arabia continues to open its economy and pursue diversification under its long-term development plans.

UK–Saudi relations have evolved steadily in recent years, with cooperation extending beyond traditional diplomacy into sectors such as renewable energy, technology, infrastructure and education.

British companies have increased their presence in the kingdom, while Saudi investment into the UK has also grown, reflecting mutual interest in stable and long-term economic collaboration.

Prince William’s visit is expected to include meetings with senior Saudi officials and engagements focused on shared priorities such as sustainability, innovation and youth development.

While Kensington Palace has not released a detailed itinerary, royal visits of this nature typically involve discussions on cultural exchange and economic cooperation, alongside symbolic events aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties.

The timing of the trip is also significant as Saudi Arabia positions itself as a regional hub for investment and diplomacy, hosting major international forums and pursuing reforms designed to attract foreign partners. For the UK, maintaining strong relations with Gulf states remains an important pillar of its post-Brexit foreign and trade policy, with Saudi Arabia seen as a key regional partner.

Royal visits have historically played a role in reinforcing diplomatic relationships between Britain and Middle Eastern countries, offering a high-profile platform for dialogue and engagement.

Analysts say Prince William’s visit is likely to be viewed as a signal of continuity and commitment, particularly as global economic uncertainty pushes countries to seek reliable partnerships.

Public interest in the visit is also expected to be high, given Prince William’s prominence and his increasing role in representing the British monarchy on the international stage.

As Prince of Wales, he has taken on a more active diplomatic profile, supporting UK interests abroad while also engaging with global issues such as climate change and sustainable development.

Officials on both sides have framed the visit as forward-looking, focusing on shared opportunities rather than past differences.

As Britain and Saudi Arabia continue to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, the February trip is likely to serve as both a symbolic and practical step in advancing a relationship that has gained renewed momentum in recent years.

Riyadh – The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Rebeca Grynspan, in Riyadh, highlighting the growing importance of constructive dialogue between faith-based institutions and global economic bodies.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment to addressing pressing international economic and development challenges through cooperation, dialogue, and inclusive engagement that places human welfare and sustainable growth at its core.

Held in the Saudi capital, the discussion underscored Riyadh’s expanding role as a hub for international dialogue, where global leaders from diverse sectors meet to exchange ideas and explore collaborative solutions.

Both leaders focused on issues of mutual interest, particularly those linked to global development pathways, economic resilience, and the need for balanced growth in a rapidly changing global economy.

The engagement demonstrated how international organizations and influential civil society institutions can work together to promote economic justice, opportunity, and shared prosperity across regions.

Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa emphasized the importance of ethical frameworks in global development, noting that sustainable economic progress is strongest when it is rooted in human dignity, cooperation, and mutual respect among nations.

Rebeca Grynspan highlighted the value of broad partnerships in advancing inclusive trade and development, stressing that global challenges require collaboration that extends beyond governments alone.

The meeting reflected a convergence of perspectives on the importance of multilateral engagement, particularly at a time when many economies face uncertainty due to shifting trade patterns and global financial pressures.

Discussions also touched on the role of dialogue in bridging gaps between developed and developing economies, ensuring that growth opportunities are more evenly distributed worldwide.

By engaging with UNCTAD leadership, the Muslim World League reinforced its role as an active participant in global conversations that go beyond cultural and religious dialogue to include economic and social development.

Through dialogue with UNCTAD, opportunities emerge for collaborative initiatives that support developing countries, particularly in areas such as capacity building, fair trade, and inclusive growth strategies.

The engagement reflects a wider recognition that economic development is closely linked to social stability, education, and cross-cultural understanding.

Such high-level interactions contribute to shaping a global narrative centered on cooperation rather than competition, with an emphasis on long-term stability and shared benefits.

As international economic challenges continue to evolve, meetings like this reinforce the importance of partnership-driven solutions that bring together diverse perspectives and expertise.

The discussions highlighted how faith-based initiatives can serve as powerful tools for strengthening national unity and building bridges between diverse segments of society.

Dr. Al-Issa’s visit comes at a time when many nations are working to reinforce the principles of coexistence and compassion within their societies.

His engagement with Sudanese scholars underscored the MWL’s belief that true religious awareness goes beyond rituals and beliefs—it extends into fostering moral responsibility, respect for others, and a shared sense of humanity.

The dialogue aimed to empower religious figures to play a proactive role in encouraging dialogue, dispelling misconceptions, and countering extremist ideologies that threaten social cohesion.

During the visit, both sides reaffirmed their shared values and commitment to deepening cooperation in religious education, humanitarian initiatives, and cultural exchange.

The discussions touched on ways to promote balanced religious discourse that reflects the core teachings of Islam—peace, mercy, and justice.

Dr. Al-Issa praised the dedication of Sudanese scholars and their efforts in guiding communities through challenges while maintaining unity and faith-based resilience.

The Muslim World League, headquartered in Makkah, has long served as a global platform for promoting moderation, interfaith dialogue, and the true values of Islam.

Under Dr. Al-Issa’s leadership, the MWL has actively expanded its outreach to countries around the world, working with governments, religious institutions, and community organizations to spread messages of peace and mutual respect.

His visit to Sudan reflects this ongoing mission to ensure that religious understanding serves as a foundation for stability and progress.

In his discussions, Dr. Al-Issa highlighted the need for continuous collaboration between religious scholars and state institutions to ensure that faith remains a unifying force rather than a source of division.

He emphasized the importance of educating young people about authentic Islamic teachings that encourage coexistence and compassion, preparing them to become responsible citizens and positive contributors to society.

Prime Minister Kamil Idris expressed appreciation for the MWL’s efforts and for Dr. Al-Issa’s visit, noting that Sudan values the organization’s role in supporting the Muslim community worldwide.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting moderate religious awareness as a cornerstone of national development.

The prime minister also underscored that Sudan welcomes cooperation with international religious bodies to enhance community education and promote moral and spiritual growth.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to explore new initiatives focused on youth empowerment, education, and cultural programs designed to foster understanding among different communities.

Dr. Al-Issa’s visit not only strengthened ties between the MWL and Sudan but also highlighted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s broader vision of global engagement—one rooted in peace, mutual respect, and humanitarian partnership.

This visit stands as a testament to the Muslim World League’s ongoing efforts to build bridges between nations, encourage cooperation among religious scholars, and support countries in their pursuit of harmony and progress.

By promoting religious awareness based on truth, compassion, and tolerance, the MWL continues to serve as a guiding light for the Muslim world, inspiring nations to embrace unity and shared purpose for a better future.

Riyadh – After five years of exemplary diplomatic service, Clive Aquilina Spagnol, the outgoing ambassador of Malta to Saudi Arabia, has concluded his official post, but his journey in the Kingdom is far from over.

The ambassador has chosen to continue living in Saudi Arabia, calling it his “newfound home” and expressing deep admiration for the culture, people, and opportunities the country offers.

Spagnol arrived in Saudi Arabia in November 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenging circumstances, he embraced the Kingdom with enthusiasm, determined to explore its rich culture, language, and traditions.

“I want to learn about Saudi Arabia, about Saudi people. I want to go through the walls, see how they work and see how they live, what they think, and discover that they think beautifully, they are open-minded, they traveled the world,” he said, reflecting his genuine curiosity and respect for the nation.

Throughout his tenure, the ambassador focused on deepening and realigning the diplomatic and economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Malta. He identified key market opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing and education, helping both countries better understand each other’s potential for collaboration.

“Diplomatic cooperation started decades ago, and they were active or modestly active in the ’80s. For the past six to seven years, the engagement has improved a lot,” Spagnol noted, highlighting the sustained growth in bilateral relations during his term.

One notable aspect of his work was balancing his role as both ambassador and consul. While consular duties are often viewed as administrative, Spagnol found tremendous personal and professional fulfillment in engaging directly with Saudi families.

“Through the consular work, you meet families, you meet beautiful families, you have a lot of contact with the real Saudis. That’s what made me make a lot of friends,” he explained. His approach allowed him to forge lifelong friendships and a deep personal connection to the Kingdom, beyond formal diplomatic networks.

Spagnol also dedicated time to exploring Saudi Arabia extensively, venturing beyond major cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam to regions such as Najran, Jouf, and Tabuk, often being the first Maltese diplomat to visit these areas.

By documenting his travels, he encouraged tourism and cultural exchange, helping showcase Saudi Arabia’s diverse landscapes and heritage to a global audience. “Saudi tourism is also increasing to Malta and vice versa,” he said, emphasizing the positive impact of cultural diplomacy on mutual understanding.

The ambassador’s immersion in local life extended to cultural and recreational experiences. He spent time camping in the desert with Saudi families and participating in traditional activities, demonstrating a genuine interest in and respect for the Kingdom’s customs. “I am proud of it … I am staying in Saudi Arabia, I am not moving out of the Kingdom. I decided to make this place my home. It exceeded my expectations,” he said.

Spagnol’s commitment to the Gulf region is reinforced by over a decade of experience in countries such as Qatar, the UAE, and Oman, bringing a wealth of regional insight to his role in Saudi Arabia.

His tenure has been marked not only by professional achievements but also by meaningful personal connections and cultural engagement, leaving a lasting legacy for Maltese-Saudi relations.

As he concludes his official mission, Clive Aquilina Spagnol’s story stands as a testament to the power of diplomacy rooted in respect, curiosity, and cultural immersion. His decision to make Saudi Arabia his home reflects the enduring bonds formed during his service and the opportunities the Kingdom offers for international cooperation, personal growth, and cultural exchange.

Riyadh — Saudi Arabia is emerging as a key player in international diplomacy, with its growing political and economic influence positioning it as a global peace hub. Mohammed Alhamed, a Saudi journalist and Founder and President of Saudi Elite, highlighted this role in a recent statement on social media.

“#SaudiArabia is a capital of global peace and plays a pivotal role in leading the world due to its importance and political and economic weight”, Alhamed stated.

The Kingdom’s diplomatic prominence is underscored by several recent developments:

Former U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s significance, recalling that it was his first overseas visit during his tenure.

Trump’s Special Envoy announced that Saudi Arabia will host a crucial peace meeting between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that he will travel to Saudi Arabia next Monday to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (#MBS), further emphasizing Riyadh’s role in international conflict resolution.

The Kingdom’s increasing diplomatic leadership has garnered praise from global figures on Alhamed’s post.

Mohammed Abbasi, Director of the Association of British Muslims, remarked, “Saudi Arabia is taking a lead on promotion of peaceful resolutions and is increasing in clout and leadership worldwide. Congratulations to all Saudis”.

UAE-based Peace Activist Loay Al-Shareef expressed optimism, saying, “High hopes for Saudi to make peace, inshallah”.

Zahack Tanvir, Director of Milli Chronicle England and a Peace Activist, also weighed in, commenting, “The world leaders are turning toward Saudi Arabia for mediation and peace. God bless its leadership”.

Dr. Saud Bin Abdulaziz Omaira echoed these sentiments, stating, “Saudi Arabia has always been a land of peace, a nation that has played a pivotal role in fostering diplomacy and stability across generations. Its commitment to dialogue and political strength continues to shape global peace efforts. Saudi Arabia has, and will always, shine in its pursuit of solutions. Hopefully, we will see the fruits of these efforts soon”.

Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced that Saudi Arabia will host a crucial Ukraine-Russia peace summit, reinforcing Riyadh’s role as a key mediator. With Russia occupying 20% of Ukraine, Saudi Arabia’s neutral stance is vital for facilitating dialogue.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed his visit to Saudi Arabia to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, underscoring Riyadh’s growing diplomatic influence.

With international recognition of its diplomatic influence, Saudi Arabia continues to solidify its position as a key mediator in global conflicts, further strengthening its role as a beacon of peace and stability in the region and beyond.
