How fake news sparked the May 4 horror of seeing women paraded naked and raped in Manipur

Date:

Manipur – Security organizations claim that ethnic tension in Manipur is being exacerbated by false information and disinformation. Since May 3, there have been approximately 160 fatalities as a result of fighting between Kukis and Meiteis. The Supreme Court and Prime Minister Modi both condemned the allegations and images of women being tortured, gang-raped, and displayed naked, which sparked outrage across the nation. Most of these violent episodes have been traced to being the result of false rumors. The horrifying incident on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, where two ladies were abused after a false photo went viral, showed the terrible effects of misinformation.
