New Delhi Residents Unite for Clean Air as Government Pledges Strong Anti-Pollution Measures

New Delhi – Authorities in New Delhi continued efforts to improve the city’s air quality as citizens gathered near the iconic India Gate on Sunday to express their support for stronger environmental measures and cleaner air initiatives.

Dozens of participants, including families and young residents, held placards and chanted messages calling for collective action to reduce pollution levels across the national capital region. The peaceful gathering reflected growing public awareness and cooperation toward sustainable urban living.

Police later dispersed the crowd as the area was not a designated protest site, officials said, adding that maintaining public safety and order remained a key priority. Despite temporary restrictions, the event highlighted the city’s increasing civic engagement on environmental issues.

Delhi’s air quality index stood at 345 on Monday, categorised as “very poor,” according to the Central Pollution Control Board. Authorities have been implementing a range of measures — including traffic restrictions, crop stubble management, and promotion of cleaner fuel — to bring pollution under control.

Leaders from various parties expressed their support for cleaner air, reaffirming the shared goal of ensuring a healthier environment for all citizens. Delhi’s Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said the government remains committed to long-term solutions.

“We will continue every possible effort to rid us of pollution,” he stated on X, underscoring the administration’s determination to strengthen air quality initiatives through collaboration and community participation.

New Delhi’s ongoing efforts reflect India’s broader national commitment to combating pollution, promoting renewable energy, and building a sustainable future for the next generation.
