Seth Meyers Targets Trump Over Epstein Scrutiny, Hecklers and Foreign Policy Claims

Late-night television host Seth Meyers devoted a segment of NBC’s Late Night to recent developments involving U.S. President Donald Trump, focusing on renewed public scrutiny over Trump’s past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, criticism at public events and the administration’s claims on foreign policy.
During his monologue, Meyers discussed Trump’s appearance at the recent White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where the president’s comedy remarks drew a subdued response from the audience. Meyers joked that the reception reflected the limited reaction to Trump’s attempts at humour.
The host also referred to journalists being recognised for reporting on Trump’s past relationship with financier Jeffrey Epstein, whose criminal conduct has remained the subject of continuing public and media attention. Meyers argued that the issue has continued to follow Trump during recent public appearances.
Attention then turned to a political rally in Michigan, where Trump addressed supporters and praised his administration’s record. Meyers highlighted remarks in which Trump told supporters that he had done more for them than their parents, describing the comments as unusual and suggesting they reflected a highly personalised political style.
The comedian also referenced an interruption during the rally in which a protester shouted “paedophile protector” at the president. According to Meyers, the same accusation had been directed at Trump during an earlier visit to Michigan this year.
Trump responded to the protester by calling the individual a communist. Meyers criticised the response and suggested the president has been unable to escape continued public attention surrounding Epstein.
The programme also featured commentary on Trump’s attendance at the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, where Meyers joked about the president appearing tired during the service and contrasted the appearance with Trump’s frequent late-night activity on social media.
Meyers also questioned Trump’s recent statements regarding Iran. The president had claimed that Iranian officials had contacted him seeking an end to military strikes and requesting a negotiated settlement.
The comedian argued there was no evidence supporting that account and noted that subsequent Iranian military action against U.S. forces appeared inconsistent with Trump’s description of events.
Meyers further observed that some commentators on Fox News had publicly questioned the administration’s characterisation of developments, suggesting uncertainty over the situation among commentators generally supportive of the president.
Closing the segment, Meyers criticised the broader direction of U.S. policy, arguing that the country had become involved in a conflict that Trump had previously pledged to avoid during his political campaigns. He also referred to continuing inflation and rising consumer prices as additional challenges facing the administration.
