UAE, GCC Condemn Drone Attacks on Saudi Oil Facilities
DUBAI-The United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Thursday condemned drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory against oil facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, describing the strikes as violations of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and threats to regional security.
In a statement carried by the state news agency WAM, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attacks as a “flagrant violation” of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and said they endangered the Kingdom’s security and stability.
The ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security, territorial integrity and national stability.
Separately, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned what he described as “terrorist” attacks carried out by Iran-aligned militias in Iraq against Saudi oil infrastructure.
Albudaiwi said the attacks represented a dangerous escalation, violated Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and posed a direct threat to the Kingdom’s security as well as to regional peace and stability.
In a statement, he warned that the continuation of such attacks would undermine international efforts aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening security across the region.
The GCC chief said repeated attacks on critical infrastructure threatened broader regional stability and called attention to the risks posed by continued violence at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The statements from Abu Dhabi and the GCC underscore growing concern among Gulf states over attacks targeting strategic energy infrastructure, which they say have implications extending beyond Saudi Arabia to regional and international security.
Neither the UAE nor the GCC statement announced additional measures in response to the attacks. The condemnations came amid continued regional diplomatic efforts to contain escalating conflict and prevent further deterioration in security across the Gulf.
