Israeli Drone Strike Kills Two in Central Gaza
GAZA-An Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in the central Gaza Strip killed two Palestinians and wounded several others on Sunday, Palestinian media and medical sources said, as fighting continued despite recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting progress toward implementing a ceasefire.
The strike targeted a vehicle on Salah Al-Din Street in Deir Al-Balah, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Medical sources said two bodies and several wounded people, some in critical condition, were taken to nearby hospitals following the attack.
Earlier on Sunday, Palestinian media and hospital officials reported that at least 13 Palestinians, including two children, were killed in separate Israeli attacks across Gaza.
Medical staff at Al-Shifa Hospital said three people were killed when an airstrike struck a residential apartment in Al-Sousi Tower in western Gaza City.
The latest violence came days after Trump said there had been a breakthrough in efforts to implement last year’s Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said on Sunday that no agreement had been reached to halt military operations in Gaza. He said Israel, which he stated already controls about 70 percent of the territory, should seek to establish full control over the enclave.
Violence has intensified across Gaza in recent weeks. According to local health authorities, 152 Palestinians were killed in the territory during July, the highest monthly death toll recorded this year.
Since the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, at least 1,222 Palestinians have been killed and 4,053 wounded in Israeli attacks, according to Palestinian health officials and United Nations agencies.
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and at least 174,000 wounded since Israel launched its military campaign in the Gaza Strip following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
The figures provided by Gaza health authorities have not been independently verified by Reuters. Israel has repeatedly challenged casualty figures issued by health authorities in the Hamas-run enclave.
